A Message from the Author

Time flies on the Endless Expanse and August almost slipped by without a newsletter. The sea has been busy, and so have I! Before September hits with our biggest wave yet, I wanted to share a quick look back at where we have been and where the tide is carrying us next.

Our Voyage So Far

This month we set sail on a brand-new course with the release of The Shadow Trials audiobook. The response has been incredible, and I want to thank everyone who has already listened and left a rating. Hearing Finn, Marina, Rowan, and the rest of the crew brought to life in audio has been one of my favorite milestones yet. With Tidebreakers Call and The Shadow Trials both out we are up to 22 hours of amazing performances by Joshua Story and Katherine Grant-Suttie. Produced by Joshua Story with hundreds of listens both books of this series are holding 5 star ratings. The reviews are with the click and read. If you have already started your listen, I would love to hear what you think.

The Voyage Ahead

Here is a glimpse of what is on the horizon for September:

  • Legacy of the Abyss is coming. As this series gains attention Amazon will be making Pre-Orders available for book 3 in the series in the next couple weeks and the crew’s darkest trial begins with a target launch date of September 25th.
  • Tidebreaker’s Call will be featured in a Kindle Countdown Deal. Amazon invited the book into their program. The exact date is still under wraps to keep things exciting, but soon you will be able to grab it ahead of book 3's launch.
  • New website soft launch. Shawn Connelly @ Taleweaver.ink is live. It is still under construction, so pardon the dust (rough visuals) but I could not wait to share it with you.
  • Early merch store test. A few first-run items are live through the site: shirts, mugs, and more. This is an experiment, and I would love to hear what you think.

Echoes of the Future

You may have noticed I have been talking more about TaleWeaver Ink, my indie publishing project. One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been helping other authors who want to self-publish. I have been sharing the lessons I wish I knew when I started, and a couple of friends have already begun their own voyages with this guidance. Who knows, one day TaleWeaver Ink might even help launch other voices officially. For now, I am glad to be paying forward the knowledge I have gained. For now other than the business entity my books, audiobooks, and merchandise fall under and the domain much of these materials sit under, the public presence of TaleWeaver Ink is it's Facebook page linked through the image below.

A Lore Snippet from the Deep

Here is something fun from the vaults: Tidebreakers Call was born from an abandoned novel draft called The Sunken Spire. I left that story unfinished on my drives for years, but the bones of it have resurfaced in this series.

That is part of why the first three books are coming so quickly: they are built from a concept that has been waiting in the depths for a long time.

Along with other Fantasy Worlds I have tucked even deeper on my hard drive is another treasure, a short story that once made it to the semi-finals of a major publisher’s contest but has never been released. A fun story I enjoy with a sarcastic talking sword and a reluctant adventurer... Still deciding if that short story expands or is simply shared as is.

A Great First Month for The Cursed Artifacts

What a start! The Cursed Artifacts has had a fantastic first month out in the world. Seeing readers dive into the Young Readers story and share their excitement has been an incredible reminder of why I write these adventures in the first place. Thank you for helping this new tale find its sea legs so quickly. Your support means everything, and it is only the beginning of where this series can sail. Especially fun to have launched that book on the Birthday of the real life inspiration for Captain Millie and have spent time with all the inspirations for the rest of that special crew during the month.

The Cursed Artifacts

McKinney Texas Literary Fest

I had the chance to have my Books at the McKinney Texas Literary Fest, and it was inspiring to see so many local authors gathered under one roof. From debut voices to seasoned storytellers, the creativity on display was a reminder that great stories are being written all around us. Events like this keep me fueled as both a writer and a reader, and I look forward to seeing even more talent, even while my "local" author status is in flux between Texas and Illinois.

Closing Words

From The Shadow Trials audiobook to Legacy of the Abyss on the horizon, this has been the most exciting chapter yet in our journey together. Thank you for sailing with me. The sea always has more adventures waiting, and I cannot wait to share them with you.

Until next time,
Shawn
